Plastic-Free July

How you can participate…and succeed!

This global movement is all about reducing single-use plastic waste and embracing more sustainable habits. At Sweet Farm, we believe that small, intentional changes in our daily lives — from the way we eat to how we shop — can create a massive positive impact for the planet, animals, and future generations.

This month, we’re focusing on how you can take meaningful steps to reduce plastic waste in your life, and live more sustainably in simple ways.

Why Go Plastic-Free?

Every year, over 380 million tons of plastic are produced — and much of it ends up polluting our oceans, harming wildlife, and entering our food chain. Plastics never fully decompose; they just break down into microplastics.

The good news: You don’t have to do it all at once. Even one less plastic bag, water bottle, or takeout container makes a difference.

5 Simple Ways to Go Plastic-Free This Month

  1. Ditch Single-Use Plastics
Keep your own reusable water bottle, shopping bags, and coffee cup in your car so you are always prepared. Buying produce? You don’t need that thin plastic bag! Mother Nature put produce in its own bag, and you’re just going to wash it anyway.

  2. Buy in Bulk
Shop at bulk stores or refill stations with your own containers. It cuts packaging waste and saves money!

  3. Swap Out Your Kitchen Essentials
Use wax wraps, glass jars, or foil instead of plastic wrap and sandwich bags.

  4. Say “No” to Plastic Utensils
Carry a travel utensil kit or bamboo cutlery when you're on the go. Just throw some utensils from your drawer into your bag!

  5. Choose Plastic-Free Toiletries
Try shampoo and conditioner bars, toothpaste tablets, and lip balms and deodorant in metal or paper packaging.

Eat Plant-Based, Live Sustainably

Reducing animal product consumption is one of the most effective ways to lower your carbon footprint. Plant-based meals use less water, land, and energy, and they avoid the emissions and pollution associated with animal agriculture.

Here are some easy, plastic-free, plant-based meal ideas to get you started:

  • Mason Jar Salads: Layer grains or noodles, roasted veggies, leafy greens, nuts or seeds, and legumes in a glass jar with dressing on the bottom for an easy meal on the go. No plastic needed!

  • Chickpea Lettuce Wraps: Use crisp romaine or butter lettuce in place of packaged tortillas or plastic-wrapped bread.

  • Overnight Oats in a Jar: Oats, plant milk, fruit, and seeds — all zero-waste if you shop smart.

  • Pasta with Cashew Cream Sauce: Buy dry pasta in bulk and blend up your own sauce using nuts and fresh herbs. YUM.

  • Snack Smart: Fresh fruit, chopped veggies, homemade granola bars, and trail mix from the bulk bin = no wrappers, no problem.

SUSTAINABLE HOME SPOTLIGHT: Glass Cans

Why we love glass cans:

Glass is recyclable, reusable, and is non-reactive so it won't leach chemicals into your drink. Single-use paper coffee cups are lined with plastic which heats up and leads to you drinking microplastics. Plus, the cups themselves are not recyclable as a result, and end up in the landfill or worse.

Bring a glass can for your iced coffee run instead and enjoy some cuteness with your oat milk latte!
