Frequently Asked Questions

For the safety of our rescued animals, staff, and visitors, visits must be scheduled in advance. We offer private tours any day of the week, and public tours weekly or daily, depending on the time of year. You can find times and book a tour right here! During the growing season (~June-Nov), we also have a 24/7 pay-what-you-can farm stand in front of our main barn that you can visit any time! For everyone’s safety, we do ask that you refrain from interacting with our rescued animals through the fences, and be mindful that you are on an active, working farm.
-
Tours are approximately one hour long, and take place rain or shine. In the case of extreme weather, we may contact you to reschedule your tour. Arrive a few minutes early to sign waivers and rent boots if you need them.

You are visiting a working farm and should dress accordingly. That means closed-toed shoes that cover your whole foot, long pants, and clothes (including shoes) you don’t mind getting dirty. Anything long and dangly could get nibbled on, and particularly dramatic and flowy clothing like sundresses, shawls, or loose pants are not a good choice around farm animals for a host of reasons. Remember: there could be inclement weather, sun, long grass, insects, animals rubbing against you, and mud. And there will definitely be poop.

Of course! We LOVE seeing kids light up when they meet animals! If you are bringing toddlers, we require one adult per little one, and that you hold their hand the entire tour. You can purchase children’s tickets separately for just $15 for children 12 and under. Our tours are free for children under a year old.

Many of our residents love visitors! But as visitors, we are all guests in our rescued animals’ home. We try hard to make sure everyone gets the chance to experience how affectionate and loving our animal friends are, but it is always up to our residents whether or not they feel like participating in pets that day.
-
We know how fun it can be to feed animals. However, many of our friends are on special diets. For a few, the wrong food could be life-threatening. Thank you for understanding and not feeding the animals!
-
For the safety and well-being of our rescued residents, we do not allow dogs on tours or anywhere near our barns or pastures. Leashed dogs are welcome any time across the street at the Meadows Event Center.
For the safety of all dogs, it is our policy not to allow dogs to remain unattended in cars on our property. This is a violation of state law in New York, and temperatures can quickly rise or cool to dangerous levels inside cars.

Our tour is a walking tour that largely takes place over uneven terrain. However, we offer some accommodations that allow people with disabilities to drive between barns for the second half of the tour. Part 1 takes place on a flat surface where we visit with the animals around the barn. We then walk up through our goat/sheep/llama/potbelly pasture which is sloping and quite uneven ground. Folks are more than welcome to exit the pasture at that time and drive up to our pig barn to meet us for Part 2. In addition, the bathroom in our main barn is wheelchair-accessible.
If you have additional questions about the accessibility of our tours or events, please contact us at info@sweetfarm.org and we will do our absolute best to make sure your experience at Sweet Farm is comfortable and safe for you and your guests.

We are at 210 Hall Road in Himrod, NY. As you drive down Hall Road towards the lake, Sweet Farm’s main barn will be on your left towards the bottom of the big hill (our winery and Airbnb are on the right side of the road). Look for our signs and the big grey barn with a small white greenhouse out front. Please park on the gravel along the grass circle in front of the big barn. Please do not park on the grass or block the barn or drives in any way.
Tours meet under the green flag on the side of the barn that says TOURS. If there isn’t someone there to greet you right away, don’t worry - the llamas have already told us you have arrived.

All tours are held rain or shine and Upstate New York weather is unpredictable, so please dress accordingly. In the rare case of extreme weather, we will contact you to reschedule your tour or issue you a full refund. Your booking confirmation email will contain a link to cancel or reschedule if you need to!
Unfortunately, as a small nonprofit organization, we are unable to issue ticket refunds if you are simply unable to attend.
