Frequently Asked Questions

About Visiting Sweet Farm

Can I drop by any time and walk around the farm?

For the safety of our rescued animals, staff, and visitors, all visits must be scheduled in advance. Depending on the time of year, we offer 2 tours per day, up to 7 days a week! You can find times and book a tour here!

How long are tours?

Tours are approximately one hour long, and take place rain or shine. In the rare case of extreme weather, we will contact you to reschedule your tour. Please scroll down for accessibility info.

How should I prepare for my visit?

You are visiting a working farm and should dress accordingly. That means closed-toed shoes that cover your foot, long pants, and clothes (and shoes) you don’t mind getting dirty. Anything long and dangly could get nibbled on, and particularly dramatic and flowy clothing like sundresses or palazzo pants are also not ideal for a number of reasons. Remember: there could be weather, sun, long grass, bugs, animals rubbing against you, and mud. And there will definitely be poop. Don’t wear your new Yeezys.

What is your tour cancellation policy?

All tours are held rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. In the rare case of extreme weather, we will contact you to reschedule your tour or issue you a full refund. Your booking confirmation email will contain a link to cancel or reschedule if you need to.

Unfortunately, as a small nonprofit organization, we are unable to issue ticket refunds if you are simply unable to attend.

Can kids come on tours?

Of course! But only by appointment, like all visitors. Our tours are also free for babies under a year old!

We love getting to see kids’ faces light up when they realize an animal has communicated something to them and they’ve understood! But we need to make sure their visit is as safe as everyone else’s.

Will I get to pet the animals?

As visitors, we are all guests in our rescued animals’ home. We try hard to make sure everyone gets the chance to experience how affectionate and loving these animals are, but it is always up to our residents whether or not they feel like participating in pets that day! So it is possible that you might not get to pet certain animals on your tour, as we will never force any animal to participate.

Can we feed the animals?

We know how fun it can be to feed animals. However, many of our friends are on special diets. For a few, the wrong food could be life threatening. Plus, we don’t ever want our animals to associate humans with food as that can be very dangerous as well. Thank you for understanding and not feeding the animals!

Can I bring my dog?

For the safety and well-being of our rescued residents (many of our rescued animals came to us because they were victims of dog attacks), we do not allow dogs on tours or anywhere near our barns or pastures. This includes both companion dogs and service dogs. Our policy is in alignment with the guidelines set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act. However!!…Leashed dogs are welcome any time across the street from our barns at Vineyard View Winery’s tasting room on the farm! (You can even book a wine tasting with your farm tour!)

For the safety of all dogs, it is our policy not to allow dogs to remain unattended in cars on our property. This is a violation of state law in New York, and temperatures can quickly rise or cool to dangerous levels inside cars. Further, while we wish we had the staffing and resources to offer care for your dog while you take a tour, we are unable to do so at this time.

I have mobility issues/trouble walking or standing for long periods - can I still take the tour?

Our tour is a walking tour that largely takes place over uneven terrain. However, the tour is generally made up of two parts which allows folks to drive up to the other barns for the second half of the tour! Part 1 takes place on a flat surface where we visit with the animals around the barn. We then walk up through our goat/sheep/llama/potbelly pasture which is sloping and quite uneven ground. Folks are more than welcome to exit the pasture at that time and drive up to our pig barn to meet us for Part 2. In addition, the bathroom in our main barn is wheelchair-accessible.

If you have additional questions about the accessibility of our tours or events, please contact us at info@sweetfarm.org and we will do our absolute best to make sure your experience at Sweet Farm is comfortable and safe for you and your guests.

Are you open for tours on holidays?

Usually! The animals and team need to be here, so why not let folks visit them and brighten their day? If you have a question about a specific holiday, check out our booking calendar to see if there are available tours that day.

How can I find you? Where should I park?

We are at 210 Hall Road, and GPS is quite reliable! As you drive down Hall Road towards the lake, Sweet Farm’s main barn will be on your left towards the bottom of the big hill (our winery and Airbnb are on the right side of the road). Look for our signs and the big grey barn with a small white greenhouse out front. Please park on the gravel along the grass circle in front of the big barn. Please do not park on the grass or block the barn in any way. We have farm equipment moving around the farm and going in and out of the barns at all times, so it is important for your safety and ours that you keep driveways and barns clear.

Tours meet under the green flag on the side of the barn that says TOURS.
