Help Elliot get back on his feet
Elliot was part of a neglect case a number of years back, but the home that the authorities released him to was sadly no better, and he had to be rescued yet again. He had been fed nothing but bread and corn for 2 years and was massively overweight when he came to Sweet Farm at the end of 2023. With proper nutrition and regular exercise, Elliot lost about 70 lbs.! But his weight loss stalled out and we now fear that the years of neglect might have taken more of a toll on him than we knew.
Yorkshire pigs like Elliot have been bred to grow so large so fast so they can be slaughtered at just 6 months old. When they get to grow up and live their lives, all that weight can become a huge burden as they age. Elliot is now about 7 years old, and he has slowed down significantly over the last year. He now struggles to get up on his own, and we suspect arthritis to be the culprit since he carried so much weight on such tiny legs for so long.
We’ve tried many different things to help Elliot, but we really need to get him to Cornell for extensive testing so he can get back to living a full life…and we know that will be expensive. Can you help us get Elliot back up on his feet?
