Stella was on a local farm back in California, and had been forced to be part of a petting zoo for the first part of her life. Most petting zoo animals are slaughtered at the end of the season, and that would have been Stella’s fate since the farmer declared her “no good for wool and too small for meat.” When our co-founder Nate went to purchase a farm truck at this farm, he spotted shy little Stella and needless to say, he came home with a truck and a Stella that day!

Because she was once forced into human contact she didn’t choose, having autonomy now matters deeply. At Sweet Farm, she gets to decide how close she wants to be…and often, that means keeping her distance. We love her no less for it. It’s an honor to give her the freedom to live on her own terms, just as all creatures deserve.
