Sweet Farm is regularly home to a number of orphaned baby opossums who we release back into the wild…right on our land! Partnered with our friends at Wild By Nurture, we are a pre-release site for opossums who have been injured, usually resulting from human activity, and rehabilitated enough to come to Sweet Farm to adjust to being wild again. They are housed and cared for in a large, predator-proof, indoor/outdoor enclosure until they grow large enough to be released (usually around 2.5 lbs.). When they are ready, we open the door to their enclosure and let them start to come and go, still providing them with food, shelter, and water if they need it…until they stop returning and are fully wild yet again. With over 16 acres of woods, Sweet Farm is the perfect place for these opies to call home.
