Welcome, Ruby!

We recently got a call from a family who needed to rehome their very sweet and friendly 10-year-old goat. She was born on their hobby farm and was bred at least once, but after losing her best friend last year she was tragically being bullied by the rest of her herd. When the family had to move and rehome their entire herd, they thought that their beloved Ruby deserved a chance to have friends and belonging with a new herd. (We agreed!) They had nowhere else to turn, and since losing our snuggly old man Butterscotch, we had space for another older goat.

So help us welcome Ruby!

HELP WITH RUBY'S CARE

Ruby and Lucy are already best friends!

Ruby is very socialized with people and will follow us around asking for pets (which we will gladly give!). She settled in really quickly and already met the entire goat herd, many of whom were VERY excited to see a pretty new face (looking at you, Alfie…). Ruby is already very bonded to mama Lucy, who is currently loving her time in the big herd (away from her kids so her milk can dry up), while her ever-growing “babies” play all day in their pasture with blind Rosie. Ruby is an older and gentler lady, and wasn’t sure about her new friends. But seeing Lucy so excited to run and play with everyone really helped Ruby feel more comfortable, and she is now almost a full member of the herd! Fellow resident old lady, Millie, spent much of yesterday with Lucy and Ruby…we’re hoping Greta will join their old mama crew (we really just want to be able to call them the Golden Girls!) and all will live happily ever after together. They all deserve it.

The sheep seem to be a little more Ruby’s speed. Peewee and Stella are thinking so, too.

Ruby suffers from arthritis and will need ongoing care to keep her comfortable and healthy. She deserves all the love and care we can give her. Can you help us care for her and keep rescuing?
